A balanced apartment (or family home/ studio/tiny room in a great city) makes it easy to unwind, sit back and relax after a long day of work. To find out how other young creatives cocoon and chill out at their crib, CHAPTER FRIDAY asks fellow hardworking souls how they calm down and cool off at home. For the second edition of the series How you chill at home we visited the crib of stylish whirlwind Suuz Bisschops (26).
Suuz is a fashion stylist with a nose for all things edgy and cool. She started out as a freelance stylist, after graduating Academy Artemis and having lived in New York for a while. She's settled in Amsterdam for the past seven years, organizing events with fellow creatives and styling shoots for magazines like L'Officiel NL.
What's the first thing you do when you get home?
'I really like to let fresh air in – even in winter – so the first thing I do is open my patio doors. Then I start cleaning up what's left from my breakfast and morning clothing crisis, because I'm not much of a morning person. I usually race out of the door immediately in a huge rush, leaving a trail of stuff behind.'
Your favorite chill spot?
'In the middle of the room I have this huge couch, packed with handmade pillows. Some I bought myself, some are props from shoots. I spend lots of hours here, nestling with my laptop or a good book. Total relaxation.'
How would you describe your interior style?
'The interior is very Scandinavian on one hand and vintage (think: wooden wicker chair) on the other. It's kind of out there, but I try to make it all fit by using a clear color scheme, which consists of a little grey, dark blue, black and white. Most accents are yellow. Collecting is my unofficial hobby, but I have little space, so it's easily crowded. I created little corners with mini collections – I call them 'little concepts' – to work around the lack of space. My dream would be to live in an industrial loft with all pretty things exposed.'

Big interior wish?

'My big interior hope is to move all of my styling props to a new office soon – to gain a little more space at home. But for the time being, my 60 square meter Amsterdam studio is my comfy domain.'
4 tips & tricks by Suuz to cozify your home:
1. 'Something I'm sure we all struggle with… keep it tidy! A clean house is a clear mind.'
2. 'Create little still life's with pieces that have character and that tell a special story. It makes your home more lively.'

3. 'Choose soothing colors for your walls, that match your style. They will influence your mood (red makes me mad!). Don't be afraid to repaint from time to time.'
4. 'When working from home, keep work and private as separate as possible. Your house will get messy when all your stuff is laying around, I always find it distracting and it keeps me from being zen.'
